This Dodgers Fernando Valenzuela Plaque is 12" x 15" and made with a vintage 8x10 photo of Fernando pitching, a deluxe engraved plate and a real baseball card. Fernando made his way to the MLB after playing in the Mexican Central League and getting recognition from MLB scouts where the Dodgers took the risk and bought out his contract. The Dodgers hit the lottery with Valanzuela. He would get called up to the Majors in September 1980 as a reliever, where he pitched 17 2/3 scoreless innings over 10 games. The next season, Fernando would set the MLB on fire. He was named the Dodgers Opening Day starter and started that season 8-0 with a 0.50 ERA. He drew huge crowds from the Latino community in Los Angeles and became a superstar. He would finish the season on a good note and won both the Rookie of the Year and the Cy Young Awards, while leading the Dodgers through the playoffs to a World Series win that season. Valanzuela would be an All-Star in each of his first 6 seasons for the Dodgers before he slowly declined due to a lingering shoulder injury. We would see Fernando's dominance one more time on June 29, 1990 as Fernando pitched his only no-hitter of his career in a 6-0 win over the Houston Astros. Fernando would play with several opther teams from 1991-1997 before retiring. He was selcted to the Pro Baseball Hall of Fame in 2014.
