Super Bowl Footballs - A Brief History

Super Bowl Footballs are great items to collect for your sports collectible collection. Each year, starting with Super Bowl 20, a special football has been made that is used in the Super Bowl Game. Wilson Sporting Goods is located is based out of Chicago and when the Chicago Bears made it to Super Bowl 20 Wilson Sporting Goods said let's celebrate our local team making the Super Bowl and create a special football to be used in the game. From this point forward all the Super Bowl footballs have the Super Bowl Logo imprinted on the primary top panel and on the other top stem panel each Super Bowl football has the name of both teams, the date and the location of the game. Naturally these footballs cannot be made until both teams are known after the NFC and AFC Championship games. The ball is a great collectible by itself and is a great series to collect. In addition, the signed collection of each Super Bowl MVP on each ball is a fantastic collection.

Prior to Super Bowl 20 the ball that was used in the Super Bowl Games was the normal Wilson Game football. Since National Sports Distributors does some much business with retried 49ers, such as Dwight Clark and Joe Montana, we have made up a Super Bowl 16 and a Super Bowl 19 football based on the same look as the other Super Bowl footballs. Recently we tried to make up these footballs again, but Wilson Sporting Goods said they could put the two team names, the date and the location on the football but they could not put the logo stamp on the main panel. The standard Rozelle NFL panel would have to be used. We currently have produced this football for Super Bowl 16.
